Do you love Chai and want to know the perfect way to prepare it? We have you covered with today’s blog! Masala Chai is a drink significant to Indian culture, dating back thousands of years. While there are a multitude of ways to make Chai based upon region, time period, and even by family traditions, today we want to share with you a simple recipe to prepare Chai at home.
How to Make Masala Chai
Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup milk of choice (oat milk, almond milk, cashew milk are great alternatives)
- 2 teaspoons of any of our loose leaf chai (add in a additional teaspoon if you are making this for an iced option)
- 1 to 2 teaspoons of sweetener of choice to taste (sugar, maple syrup, agave syrup)
Directions:
- Brew the Chai:
- In a saucepan, add 1 cup of water and bring to a boil.
- Add the chai tea leaves and freshly grated ginger to the boiling water.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover and simmer for 5 minutes to infuse the flavors.
- Add Milk and Sweetener:
- Pour in 1 cup of milk of your choice.
- Stir in 1 to 2 teaspoons of your sweetener, adjusting the sweetness to your preference.
- Simmer and Strain:
- Simmer until the milk starts to boil.
- Once at a boil, remove from the heat. Make sure not to let your milk boil over.
- Strain and Serve:
- Using a fine-mesh strainer, pour the masala chai into your favorite cup.
- Discard the tea leaves left in the strainer. The tea leaves are compostable!
- Optional Foam Step for a Chai Latte:
- If you’d like to make a chai latte, use a milk frother to foam your steamed milk of choice until it’s creamy and use it to top off the latte.
